  • The CNSS Editorial Team oversees, edits, and manages the publication process for the organization's flagship journal and all other written content.
  • The team ensures the quality and adherence to guidelines for papers and articles submitted to them. Thematically, the content covers national security, international relations, military doctrine, strategy, history, education, and administration.

Writing and Publication Categories

Manuscript Types
  • Solicited Writings: Invitations extended to experts for writing on specified subjects.
  • Unsolicited Writings: Manuscripts submitted by writers for consideration.
Journal Articles
  • Word Limit: 2500-3000 words.
  • The CNSS Journal is a peer-reviewed research periodical focusing on national security, defence services, and related subjects.
  • Published quarterly in both print and digital formats.
Strategic Perspectives
  • Article Length: 1000-1200 words.
  • Exclusively available in digital format.
  • Citations are encouraged for greater credibility.

Writing Guidelines

  • Incorporate proper endnotes or footnotes for references.
  • Cite quotes, facts, maps, charts, and data accurately.
  • Authors of CNSS-associated books and publications must respect copyright principles.
  • Utilize Times New Roman font 12 with 1.5 line spacing.
  • Employ British English as the default language.
  • Explain acronyms upon first use, followed by acronym usage.
  • In full-length non-fiction books, list acronyms in front of the book.
  • The editorial team retains the right to alter manuscripts for factual accuracy and content quality. Major changes involve author consent.

Contributor Details

  • Affiliation, postal and e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers required.
  • Disclose potential conflict of interest regarding the manuscript.

Table and Figure Guidelines

  • Tables in MS Excel / Word; Figures in TIFF/JPEG format with minimum 300 dpi, 1500 pixels, min width 4 inches.
  • Limit heading levels to two or three; avoid lengthy headings.
  • Minimize italics and diacritical; maintain consistent use for emphasis and specific terms.

Citations

  • Prefer Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS) citations in 'Notes and Bibliography Style'.
  • Citations format is applicable to all CNSS publications.

Rejection Criteria

  • The Editorial Team can reject articles violating ethical norms, containing derogatory / inflammatory content, or identified as plagiarized.
  • Manuscripts not adhering to guidelines will be rejected or sent for rectification.
  • Manuscripts resisting reasonable changes suggested by the Editorial Team shall be rejected.
  • Plagiarism, unacknowledged copying, or misattribution of original authorship is prohibited.
  • Duplicate publication results in paper rejection, including self-plagiarism.

Copyright

  • CNSS holds "all rights" over its published works, preventing reproduction, distribution, or adaptation without permission.

  • The CNSS Journal is available in digital and print formats; print version priced by CNSS.
  • Strategic Perspectives and Blog articles are free in digital form.
  • Books and Occasional papers priced by publishers. Some Occasional papers available free in digital form.

Clearance for Serving Officers
